National Military Appreciation Month 2023

As a veteran-owned small business, with former Navy and Army members on our team, we know firsthand the sacrifice and dedication that members of our military and their families give to our country. That's why we're proud to recognize National Military Appreciation Month this month and every month in honor those who serve.

National Military Appreciation Month was established in 1999 by Senator John McCain and Congressman Duncan Hunter as a way to bring awareness and recognition to the sacrifices and contributions of the military and their families. It is celebrated every May and includes several important days, such as Military Spouse Appreciation Day, Armed Forces Day, and Memorial Day.

There are many ways to celebrate National Military Appreciation Month and show support for our military and their families. Some ideas include:

  1. Donating to a military organization: There are many organizations that support military members and their families, such as the USO or Wounded Warrior Project. Consider making a donation to one of these organizations to show your support.

  2. Write a letter: Take some time to write a letter to a service member or veteran to thank them for their service and sacrifice. Your words of appreciation can make a big difference.

  3. Attend a parade or ceremony: Many cities and towns hold parades and ceremonies to honor the military during National Military Appreciation Month. Consider attending one of these events to show your support.

  4. Fly the flag: Displaying the American flag is a simple yet powerful way to show your support for the military. Consider flying a flag outside your home or business during National Military Appreciation Month.

At Giesler, we make an effort to support military organizations and events in our community. If you're looking for ways to support the military and their families too, these organizations offer a variety of ways to get involved, including volunteering or making a donation:

  1. USO: The USO provides programs and services to support military members and their families. You can check out CEO, Patricia Giesler, volunteering for the USO here.

  2. Wounded Warrior Project: The Wounded Warrior Project offers programs and services to support wounded veterans and their families.

  3. Operation Homefront: Operation Homefront provides emergency financial assistance and other support to military families.

We thank all those who are serving or have served and encourage everyone to find a way to show their support and appreciation during this special month and throughout the year.
